An introduction to our wide range of family dentistry.

Welcome to the first of our regular blogs and we hope that you find them useful. We will be looking at both general and  cosmetic dental treatments along with oral health information and other dental related news.

For our introductory blog, we will take a look at some of the treatments that we offer at our Staines dental practice. We hope that you will agree that we offer a comprehensive service with something for everyone. Whether you need a straightforward filling, a whiter smile or a more complex treatment such as the placing of a dental implant, we are here to help you.

General dental care

Most people that visit a dentist probably do so for either a check up or to have a dental issue resolved. For those with tooth decay and who need a cavity filled, we can offer composite fillings which are almost invisible when you smile. Crowns can also be fitted where more damage has been done to provide a stronger solution.

Routine check ups are essential for ensuring that your oral health is monitored on an ongoing basis. They also allow us to detect any problems at an early stage so that we can intervene promptly. For example, a small cavity can usually be filled at an early stage, whereas if left for a longer period of time, you may require a crown, or even an extraction in some cases. All ages are welcome of course, from young children to those in the later years of their life.

Emergency appointments are also available on a same day basis and you don’t even have to be registered with our practice.

Dental hygienist

Our oral hygienist offers a great way to keep your gums in good health. This is very important as gum disease not only often produces many unpleasant symptoms such as bleeding and inflamed gums and bad breath (halitosis), but can also affect the bone tissue in its more advanced stage (periodontitis). This can result in loose teeth or even the loss of the teeth altogether.

Cosmetic dentistry

People are increasingly attending our practice not only to ensure that their teeth remain healthy but to make them look great too. At your local Staines dentist we are pleased to offer a wide range of solutions to help you get the best from your smile.

For those with crooked teeth, we offer a wide range of orthodontics including the popular and discreet, Invisalign orthodontic system that enables you to have your teeth straightened without unsightly metallic braces. For those unhappy with the colour of their teeth, perhaps through staining, we can provide a custom ‘at home’ teeth whitening treatment that is both fast acting and effective.

For those with more heavily stained teeth, or where there are ‘flaws’ such as minor chips or cracks that won’t be resolved with a whitening procedure, dental veneers can provide a more effective solution. Composite bonding may also be effectively used in some situations and we will take a look at that, and other issues, in future blogs.

Dental implants

One of the most significant advances in dentistry in the past few years is the wide availability of dental implants. These are gradually replacing dentures as the most popular way to replace a missing tooth, or teeth. There are many good reasons for this being the case. Not only do they look natural but they also offer a degree of strength and stability that dentures simply can’t. They do this by placing an artificial tooth root into the jawbone, upon which a crown is attached. Naturally, the procedure is more complex than this would suggest and we will look deeper into dental implants in another blog.

Nervous patients

Our local dentist was established in 1988 and we have seen many patients since then. Inevitably, a proportion of these have exhibited some degree of anxiety about their trip to the dentist. This is a common problem and one that we do all that we can to address. We feel that you will find the experience of visiting us to be as relaxed as a dental appointment can be. If you suffer from dental anxiety, please do let us know in advance and we will make any adjustments that we can to make your visit as comfortable and stress free as possible.

For those whose level of anxiety is high and who require a complex treatment such as a dental implant placement, you may be interested to know that our dentist, Fahad Jamil is able to offer IV sedation for these treatments.

We hope that you enjoyed today’s introductory blog and we will look further into these treatments and other oral health topics over time. We are always open to suggestions for a dental related blog topic so please do let us know if you have something that you would like us to address!

For further information on any of the topics above or to make an appointment with us for a check up or resolution of an oral health related issue, please call our Staines upon Thames dental practice on 01784 463695.
